Brisket Dry Rub Recipes

The right brisket dry rub recipe can turn a good brisket into a great one. Mouthwatering briskets just don’t happen, they are made. It takes a good piece of meat and the right spices. 

There are hundreds of dry rub recipes available, from home made to pre-packaged commercially produced products.

Your best bet is to consider what type of flavor you are trying for. If it’s a southwest flair go spicy. If it’s a neutral flavor go with simple spices.

Here are a few tried and true Dry rub recipes. You won’t go wrong starting out with one of these.

  The Rub 

Lone Star Dry Rub:
3/4 cup paprika1/4 cup fresh ground black pepper1/4 cup chili powder, fine ground1/4 cup salt1/4 cup sugar2 tablespoons garlic powder2 tablespoons onion powder

1 tablespoon cayenne, ground fine

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator. 

Basic Brisket Rub:
1/2 cup paprika3 tablespoons ground black pepper3 tablespoons coarse salt3 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons chili powder

Mix first 5 ingredients in small bowl to blend. Cover with plastic and refrigerate.
